If you are holidaying around Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa or Guardamar, driving an hour to Benidorm for a day of slides isn’t the obvious choice — especially with children asking ‘are we there yet?’ from the first roundabout. Aquópolis Torrevieja is the local answer: the southern Costa Blanca’s big water park, open during the summer season, with rides for every age.
Who is it for, and what’s there?
Aquópolis sticks to the classic formula that works: thrill slides for teenagers and parents who still think they are teenagers, pools and a wave pool for family time, and a little ones’ area with shallow water play.
A big plus for families: entry is free for children under one metre tall. With toddlers, that is a strong argument compared with the big parks.
As always, each ride has its own minimum height, posted on site.
Prices and season
The park often runs one-off promotions online (August deals, special prices on certain days): check the official website before buying, as the difference can be significant.
Our tips
Buy online: an €8 saving per adult compared with the gate, which pays for a child’s lunch.
Arrive at opening time in July and August to pick your shady spot and do the big slides before the queues build.
Sun cream every two hours, UV T-shirts for the little ones and water shoes for the scorching paths.
Save some energy for the end of the day: Torrevieja’s salt lakes, very close by, are beautiful at sunset.
After the park: the pink lakes
Torrevieja is flanked by two large salt lakes, La Mata and Torrevieja, protected as a natural park. Depending on the season and the light, the Torrevieja lake turns a spectacular pink, thanks to micro-organisms adapted to very salty water. Children love it; parents all reach for their phones.
Up close, the salt forms curious bubbles and crystals along the shore: a life-size natural science lesson.
Nearby
Further south, the Mar Menor offers calm waters that are ideal with little ones. To the north, the dunes and pine forest of Guardamar del Segura make a superb nature outing. And if you head up towards Benidorm, compare with Aqualandia and Aqua Natura.
